Open Mixed Pairs Winners 2018 Alex Morgan & Luke Iles
Opening Day this year is on Saturday 14th April. Fixtures for the season are complete and Handbooks have now been issued.
We have two touring fixtures this year namely Mussellborough BC from Edinburgh on 12th May and Avon Vale BC from Bristol on 28th May.
Our 3rd Open Mixed Pairs Tournament will run from Sunday 22nd July to Sunday 29th July.
Coaching sessions for new and prospective members will begin in early May on Friday evenings from 5pm to 6pm. The start date to be advised shortly.
Best wishes to all members in their various leagues and competitions.
We are very sad to advise the death of Allan Blackmore, a much respected member of Whitchurch Bowls Club.
Allan was widely known within the regional Bowls community being the Honorary Secretary of the County of South Glamorgan Bowling Associaton, a position he undertook with great dedication and also the hard working Manager of the Cardiff Indoor Bowls Club at Sophia Gardens.
Allan bore his illness with considerable bravery and continued in work until a few weeks ago when he was admitted to Velindre Hospital.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Jackie and all the family at this difficult time.
The winners of the Sunrise Open Mixed Pairs Tournament were Katie Davies and Christian Eldridge , both members of the Whitchurch Club.
The Runners-Up were Olivia Jackson (Whitchurch BC) and her father Steve from Penylan BC.
Despite a somewhat damp week the tournament kept to schedule and was well attended throughout. Well done to all those who took part.
Congratulations to the winning team of Christian Eldridge, Nicola Reynolds and Roy Lewis who are shown lifting the fine Mixed Triples Trophy.
All competitors played a total of 3 x 10 end games before the final which was played in good spirit and was closely fought. Congratulations also to the runners-up Iwan Rogers, Mason Delnevo and Rita Rees.
This all-day event on Sunday 9th July was well supported and we were lucky with the the weather which was Mediterranean.
The Open Mixed Pairs Competition sponsored by Sunrise Senior Living will be held from Sunday 23rd to Sunday 30th July.
With prize money totalling £850 please click on the links below for details of Entry Forms and general arrangements for this prestigious competition.
The season got underway on Saturday 15th April in pleasant weather and the Green running very well for the time of year. Well done Andy Temple and his team.
We are grateful to our sponsor James Summers and Son for their generous contribution towards the splendid new shirts and to Karen and Geoff Lewis for arranging to have them available for the start of the season.
Good luck to all the teams in both the Men’s and Ladies sections for a successful 2017 and in particular to Anne Smith in her year as President of the Glamorgan County Womens Bowling Association.
A good crowd turned out on a cold November night to show support to members who had excelled in the various club competitions and were presented with their trophies by Paul Brain, Men’s Captain and Gaynor Good, Ladies Captain.
After the presentations the evening’s organiser Paul Mitchell compered a version of the popular quiz ‘Who Dares Wins’ which went on and on… but was great fun and involved everyone.
A selection of the 2016 winners are shown below:
The Official Photographer would like to apologise for the poor quality of the media inserts and blames it on ‘technical issues’ on the night.
The Joe Orr is a very popular intra-club competition battled out by the Men’s Section on Thursday evenings throughout the summer months. It is supposed to be fun, a chance to relax among friends…but as ever the competitive spirit is never far away!
Winners this year were the ‘Hip.Who? Ray’ team led by Eric Shipperlee.
The annual fixture jointly held by the Whitchurch and Whitchurch Hospital Bowling Clubs took place on Sunday 14th August. The first games began at 9.00am and it was not until early evening that the final was played-out in warm sunshine.
It was an enthralling game to watch for the many who had stayed to support the finalists and enjoy a ‘sun-downer’ or two. Lorraine Rogers and her son Iwan of Whitchurch triumphed over Peter Stewart and Ethan Richards of Whitchurch Hospital in a very sporting match.
This week-long tournament, sponsored by Sunrise Senior Living, attracted over 40 pairs teams from across the region. It culminated in an exciting day on Sunday 31st July when both the semi-finals and the final itself were closely fought games.
The winners in the end were Mike Prosser and Rhianne Taylor of Ely Valley BC who beat Bob Cummings and Pam Gough of Rhiwbina BC by a single shot.
The new Cup, in memory of Jonathan Smith, was presented by his father Bob Smith, the Club President.
This was the inaugural year of the Competition to be held at Whitchurch and thanks go in particular to Paul Mitchell, Geoff Lewis and Mandy Price for their hard work in ensuring that all the necessary arrangements were in place and that the week proved to be such a success.
The first major tournament of the 2016 season took place on 5th June in pleasant sunny weather. It would be wrong to call Phil and Sam ‘rank outsiders’ but not a lot of money would have been riding on them on the day. Nevertheless they confounded the pundits and their opponents with a textbook display of Pairs bowling.
The day was very well attended and thanks to all for making this a very enjoyable day. We look forward to many more as the season unfolds.
Whitchurch Bowls is pleased to announce that it will run a Mixed Pairs Competition this summer, open to bowlers from all Clubs in Wales. This Competition has been hosted, successfully, for many years by the Rhiwbina Bowls Club and we are grateful for their assistance in the transfer of venue and to Sunrise Senior Living for their continued support.
The Competition will take place between the 24th – 31st July and entry forms will be available in March.
Finals Day for the 2015 Club Competitions took place in excellent weather on Saturday 19th September. Presentation Evening was held on 14th November, a little later than normal, but was well-attended with over 70 members enjoying a buffet and a ‘jolly’ disco .
The worthy winners and their Silverware are shown below:
Sunday 20th September was the re-scheduled date for this all-day competition, open to members of the Whitchurch and the Whitchurch Hospital clubs. Played in great spirit by the rival club members, the worthy winners were Huw Rees and Ray Price of Whitchurch BC.
Runners-up were Graham Codd and Les Haslett from Whitchurch Hospital BC.
Thanks to everyone who took part and for making it such a fun day.
The tournament also proved the ideal day for the Ladies section to preview their new red jackets that have been kindly sponsored by The Principality Building Society.
Congratulations To Norman and Stephen Eldridge on winning the 2015 Welsh Over 60’s Pairs Competition held at Llandrindod Wells.
Lance Price, Alliance Captain, arranged a fun-filled afternoon on 1st September which included a tremendous meal kindly prepared by Mandy aka Mrs Price. On a pleasant afternoon a very motley crew, some of whom had remembered to come in fancy dress also enjoyed some novelty bowling, a quiz and in some cases a wee too much whisky.
On the green Brian Brown won the ‘Spider’ and was also Skip of the winning team on the day thus being showered with even more prize money. John Cummings was fined and will be reported to the Committee for parking his camel on the green.
Although the Alliance games are always played to win, it is essentially a relaxed afternoon with good camaraderie and a chance for either a reflective pint at the end of the game or a lemonade and a game of pool for the younger members.
Lance gave a little speech and told his one joke that we all thought was highly amusing…once again.
